A time for geese
This is the time of year when tranquil waters await the flocks with anticipation.
The sky is filled, The honking a joyous, haunting song, once heard, never forgotten.
Here they come! Loudly proclaiming their arrival, They circle above preparing for a landing, a rest & a meal.
What a thrill to see a hundred or more geese suddenly lift out of the water
& soar directly over head
Filing into vee formations, honking as they sail across the sky,
leaving behind quiet, lonely lily pads to say goodbye.
For now we leave the empty lake behind. As we head for home, another flock approaches.Where will they land?
There is a swamp hidden away. So eerie yet beautiful, beckoning for the geese to stay and rest a while.
They are once more on their way.
I now quote from an old song
" My heart knows what the wild goose knows & My heart goes where the wild goose goes.
Wild Goose, Brother Goose, Which is best? A wandering fool or a heart at rest?"
Journey safely to your winter home wild goose. We will welcome you back in the spring!
